Installation
Install a recent stable Rust toolchain, then install ramenv from crates.io:
cargo install ramenv --locked
ramenv --help
Alternatively, prebuilt binaries for Linux x86_64, macOS Intel/Apple Silicon, and Windows x86_64 are available from GitHub Releases. Extract the archive for your platform and put ramenv (ramenv.exe on Windows) on your PATH. See release documentation for checksums and platform requirements.
Cargo installs the executable in its binary directory, usually ~/.cargo/bin. That directory must be on your PATH.
ramenv uses Rust edition 2024. Use a recent stable compiler that also supports the dependencies pinned in Cargo.lock; the edition’s minimum compiler version may be too old.
ramenv is a native executable and runs without Node.js. Your application may still need its own runtime.
Install from source
git clone https://github.com/lczerniawski/ramenv.git
cd ramenv
cargo install --path . --locked
ramenv --help
To build without installing, run these commands from the ramenv source directory:
cargo build --release --locked --bin ramenv
./target/release/ramenv --help
The command examples in this manual require ramenv on your PATH.
Check the available commands
ramenv --help
ramenv init --help
ramenv run --help
ramenv menu
menu lists the key-storage ingredients; it does not change your workspace.
Cloud ingredients also require a configured identity and secret-store permissions. You do not need a cloud account for the default local ingredient.
Follow the quickstart from your application’s directory. Initialize the vault there, rather than in the ramenv source checkout, unless you intend to configure that checkout.
